SR Paul and the Beer Rule, Epiphany 3 26Jan2014

Link: Paul and the Beer Rule, Epiphany 3 2014

Summary of what I was saying and why:
I don’t preach on a text from one of the Epistles, so when this section of 1 Corinthians called to me, I went with it. After that I wanted to talk about differences and divides without letting the sermon be a set up for our AGM (Annual General Meeting) after the service.

Theology: Ecclesiology
Jesus Count: low
Good News: In the diverse body of Christ, our differences don’t divide us.

What did I change on my feet?
This was a sermon from outlined notes, so I didn’t change things so much as fill the sermon out.
What didn’t work/what did I miss?
I think I should’ve been clearer about how we live with and are strengthened by our differences.
What did work?
I’ve loved the Beer Rule since I first read about it. I was happy to include it.

Other sermons I liked:

Priest Lightcap opens with one of my favourite jokes and proceeds to wonder if the Church is divided and how we can be united.

Priest Romanik considers if anything good can come out of the Church.

Deacon Pierce connects shoes and transformation.

(Here’s the list of people I usually listen to. Am I missing someone?)
The Anglican Church of Canada uses the Roman Ordinary Time numbering system instead of numbering the Propers. Because all of this is new to me, I’m now indicating both numbering systems.
