SR: There will be (are) signs

Sermon Review

Link: Advent 1, 2012

Summary of what I was saying and why:
It’s the first Sunday if Advent and we have Jesus talking about signs. Unpleasant signs.
As Christians we a to be signs of God’s love in this world.

Theology: echscatology, living faith
Jesus Count: high
Good News: Jesus’s promise may include chaos, but it is not about chaos.
What did I change on my feet?
I had originally thought about using the Five Marks of Mission, but I made a last minute swap.

What didn’t work/what did I miss?
I’m pretty sure I forgot to mention “seek and serve Christ in all persons” specifically. It’s a little thing but I noticed.

What did work?
I loved tying the Baptismal Covenant in on Advent 1. I also thought that there was a nice thread of continuity between last week and this sermon.

Other sermons I liked:
The Rev Linman
Advent, a Baptism, and the liturgy in one sermon!
Did anyone else see the Sesame Street movie the museum and the Egyptian afterlife? I loved that movie.

The Rev Pankey
“Faith in God is always faith in something that is certainly going to happen, but I’d place that kind of waiting into a third category”

(Don’t see your sermon or a sermon you liked? Maybe I don’t know about it. Leave me a comment with a link and I’ll take a look.)
